Ring Sizing - Simple, Yet Not?

Let’s get real about ring sizing for a minute. It’s one of those things that is very simple, yet somehow always gets a bit more complicated than it needs to. Here is the best way to get an accurate size, and one that correlates with the type of ring or stack you are aiming for.

Firstly, whatever you do - DON’T print some sort of measuring device off the internet. These are 100% of the time inaccurate and just lead to frustration. Take the time to stop by a local reputable jeweler and have their friendly staff size you up ;)

Be sure to let the person helping you out know if you are looking to wear a thin band, a stack of bands or a band wider than 4mm. There are thin band sizers - best used to estimate the size of a ring 4mm and under, and Wide Band sizers - best used to estimate the best size for a stack of rings, or a single band wider than 4mm.

Here is where the confusion drops - the SIZES are the same, it’s the FIT that’s different. A wider ring or stack of rings will cover more surface area of your finger, therefore fitting a bit tighter than one thin band would.

Example:

On my ring finger I wear a size  4.5 in a thin band, and a 5.5 in a wide band or when I stack several rings. Same size finger, different size rings.

A Note about Sun, Salt and Spirits. (I really just wanted to be alliterative on that one). But really, all of the above can cause finger swelling and give you a drastically different measurement from one day to the next. So, maybe don’t get your fingers sized after a night of heavy drinking at a barbecue on the hottest day of the year… you get the idea ;)
